This advertisement is one of the most famous in history. Shackleton, a well known explorer turned his attention to the crossing of Antarctica from sea to sea, via the pole. To this end he made preparations for what became the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, 1914–17. Disaster struck this expedition when its ship, Endurance, became trapped in pack ice and was slowly crushed before the shore parties could be landed. - The number of people with a driver’s license in the United States grew from around 167 million in 1990 to approximately 222 million in 2016. Currently, women account for some 51 percent of licensed drivers in the U.S.
- “For vehicles driven 15,000 miles a year, average ownership costs added up to about $706 a month or $8,469 a year in 2017, according to AAA.”
- Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens.
- In 2015, 2,333 teens in the United States ages 16–19 were killed and 221,313 were treated in emergency departments for injuries suffered in motor vehicle crashes in 2014.1 That means that six teens ages 16–19 died every day from motor vehicle injuries.
So, you’ve taken Segment I.
